Kolkata – the City of JOY, the ultimate happiness.
‘Kolkata’ formerly known as ‘Calcutta’, the phenomenal, incredible city around the world. People of kolkata celebrate most of the festival and highest number of festivals in this planet, you can called it as “Festival City”.

History of our city :
In Jan 2001, Calcutta was changed to Kolkatta or kolkata. It is believed that the name Kolkata fairly sounded like Kalikata, one of three villages in this area where today kolkata is present, before the arrival of British. Its also a belief that the name Kalikata was derived from Goddess Kali. Once upon a time Calcutta(Kolkata) was the Capital of India.

“The City of Palaces”, and the “City of Joy”, Kolkata has also been home to prominent people such as Thakur Shri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa, Maa Sarada Devi, Swami Vivekananda, Swami Sri Yukteswar Giri, Paramahansa Yogananda, Rabindranath Tagore, Subhas Chandra Bose, Anil Kumar Gain, Kazi Nazrul Islam, A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada, Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, Prabhat Ranjan Sarkar, Mother Teresa and Satyajit Ray.

It is famous for joy, happiness, food, festival, sweets, tourist spots, sports, historical places, arts, music, dance etc – you can say for everything. Here, people are so energetic and they enjoy each and every moment of their life.
The people are famous for their fondness for good food. Sweets like- Sandesh, Rosogolla, Mishti Doi and Chanar Payesh are very famous all over the country. In the other hand, Fish and Rice (in Bengali- Maach and Bhaat) is favorite and common food for daily routine for every Bengali. Chinese, Continental, Thai, Tibetan and Mughlai cuisine including tandoori, kebabs and biryani etc are next in the popularity list.
In the markets, cotton, silk and hand-looms are top quality, as is the gold and silver jewellery. The city is the land of sports lovers, intellectual, romantic and has a unique sensibility. Be it a religious festival, soccer matches, political demonstrations, music, art, poetry reading or eating for them each activity is equally important.

Durga Puja : DurgaPuja the most important and the most popular of all Bengali festivals, is celebrated. The Goddess Durga is worshipped for 10 days of the festival.
Durga puja is the Biggest Festival of us, we enjoy a lot.
The actual worship of the Goddess Durga as stipulated by the Hindu scriptures falls in the month of Chaitra, which roughly overlaps with March or April and is called Basanti Durga Puja. This ceremony is not observed by many and is restricted to a handful in the state of West Bengal. The more popular form, which is also known as Sharadiya (Autumnal) Durga Puja, is celebrated later in the year with the dates falling either in September or October. Since the Goddess is invoked at the wrong time, it is called “Akaal Bodhon” in Bengali.
This is held that Durga emerged from the collective energies of all of the gods, including Shiva, Vishnu and Brahma, to vanquish the demon Mahishasura who could not be defeated by any god or man.

Kolkata all about :
Purity of nature, greenery and the healthy weather represents the Beauty of Kolkata.. This metropolitan city has its own way to teach the lessons every side of life- it has own colors, own feelings and majorly the people are so friendly and helpful in nature. The major tourist attractions in Calcutta include Birla Planetarium, Zoo, Victoria Memorial and the Gardens. For the wildlife enthusiasts, it has Sunderbans a wildlife sanctuary rich in a variety of flora and fauna.
The airport is situated at Dumdum, around 17 km northeast of the city centre. It is well connected by air to all major countries in the world, as well as to Indian cities. The metro rail is the famous train which was started in 1984 and operates only in Kolkata. These trains are very clean, punctual and efficient and the stations are also air conditioned.

The city of joy is full of enthusiasm. It balances the equation of religions and regions.
The sunrise, sunset, morning breeze of the city makes a man Healthy, Wealthy, Positive in thinking. River ‘The Ganga’ flows throughout the heart of the city. The beautiful sound of the river makes a smile on anyone face, and it creates wonderful & majestic music when waves touches the feet of the river.
